I really enjoyed looking back at my impulse buys from February and contemplating how they have fared since their initial acquisition. Let's celebrate those pink Doc Mary Janes today. Here they are in the wild. I love to wear them with cute crew socks & lots of bright pastels. They're also nice in colder weather with an otherwise neutral outfit like all black or a chambray dress for a pop of color against the cold.
The complimentary cherry on top of this neon pastel dream is this pink 90s cardigan that's exactly the same color. I found it on eBay in early summer. I removed the shoulder pads, increased the size of the button holes and replaced the buttons on it with oversized tortoiseshell buttons.
Caring for real patent leather was new to me when I bought these. Initially, I used a little bit of rubbing alcohol to gently remove a small scuff, but this fall I did a little more research and invested in some Cadillac Leather Cleaner, which really shined them up nicely. Dr. Martens makes a Patent Leather cleaner, but they were out of stock. This one is cheaper and worked quite well.
For my regular leather Docs, I did try the official Dr. Marten Wonder Balsam, though, and it's magnificent. Highly recommend it over traditional saddle soap. It really makes the leather glow.
A bit about me:
My grandmothers grew up in the Great Depression and their stories, skills, and resourcefulness made a beautiful mark on my heart. I am always making something, usually with fiber or textiles. I love scraps and reusing things and rescuing overlooked treasures. I think about a lot of things while I am making. Here is a record and, hopefully, a connection to the thread of my story.
